Postdoc Spotlight: Wai-Ting LamWelcome to Wai-Ting Lam, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, who will be working under the supervision of Associate Professor, Jason Mireles-James, Ph.D. Their research will focus on problems in celestial mechanics, including the orbital dynamics of irregularly shaped asteroids and comets.

Over the next three years, as part of the prestigious National Science Foundation’s ASCEND program, Dr. Lam will be involved in activities to broaden participation of underrepresented minorities in mathematical sciences through the recruitment and retention of students at FAU, as well as through collaboration with other institutes.

Dr. Lam's love of mathematics goes back to her undergraduate studies and her research in celestial mechanics and space mission design during an internship at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She has since developed an international network of collaborators in Italy, Mexico and the United States.

Her main career goal is to develop a strong research program, grow as an educator and eventually secure a tenure track position at a top university.
