Ph.D. Student Deepak Bastola Selected as Global Ambassador and President of Global Owls for 2025/2026

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is delighted to announce that Deepak Bastola, a Ph.D. student with a research focus in Applied Statistics and Machine Learning, has been selected as one of the three students, university-wide, to serve as a Global Ambassador for the 2025/2026 academic year at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Each year, FAU selects three students through a rigorous and competitive selection process to serve as Global Ambassadors. These individuals are chosen for their academic achievement, leadership skills, intercultural communication abilities, dedication to student mentorship, and commitment to fostering global engagement and inclusion on campus. In addition to this honor, Deepak has also been named President of the Global Owls! This leadership role underscores his commitment to enhancing the international student experience.

In these roles, Deepak will

  • represent FAU on panels, interviews, outreach initiatives, focus groups, and media projects.
  • assist new international students as they complete orientation and adjust to life at FAU.
  • lead the Global Owls program and coordinate support services for both prospective and current international students.
  • collaborate with fellow ambassadors and members of the International Friends Program (IFP) to promote projects that elevate the voices and contributions of FAU’s international community.
  • promote and participate in events hosted by the FAU Center for Global Engagement.
  • share his personal experiences and insights to help guide new students through academic and campus life at FAU.

Deepak’s selection as both Global Ambassador and President of Global Owls highlights his outstanding leadership, dedication to service, and vision for a globally connected campus. Deepak excels not only in his academic achievement and the demonstration of strong teaching abilities as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA). He also has a clear vision which includes making meaningful contributions to FAU’s student community and creating a broader and more memorable campus life for all students.
