Qualified full-time students may receive teaching assistantships and tuition waivers. A full-time graduate student must take at least 9 credits.
- Starting Fall 2004, teaching assistantships for new PhD students will be $20,000 for the whole year! Students are expected to work 20 hours per week for the department.
- Tuition waivers cover most of the 9 credits required for full-time students.
Remaining fees:
- Part of the tuition and fees: Instate students pay ~ $450, out-of-state students ~ $700. Due about 3 weeks after the term starts.
- Foreign students: About $800 a year for health insurance. Must be paid before registration!
Work load: 20 hours per weak. Typical duties are
- 4 sections of College Algebra tutorials (each section meets one hour a week) plus grading and additional hours in the math lab, or
- 3 sections of Statistics tutorials (each section meets 2 hours a week) plus grading, or
- teaching one section of a course like Methods of Calculus, Trigonometry, etc. (requires at least 18 graduate mathematics credits), or
- 12 hours in the math lab, answering questions of students
in lower division courses.
