Dear Prospective Graduate Student,
We welcome your interest in the graduate programs of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Florida Atlantic University . Let us introduce ourselves:
The department . We have an active and growing department of overt twenty-five research mathematicians, many of them with international reputation. In addition to accomplished faculty in the core areas of algebra and analysis, we have researchers in combinatorics, control theory, constructive mathematics, cryptography, differential geometry, dynamical systems and chaos, financial mathematics, graph theory, probability, and (bio-) statistics. The department organizes an international conference on combinatorics and graph theory, and it regularly hosts distinguished visiting mathematicians. For more information on the research activities see our web page.
The programs . We offer the following graduate degrees: Master of Science in Teaching, Master of Science in Mathematics, Master of Science in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, and Doctor of Philosophy. See the links for more Information about the M.S. and Ph.D. programs.
Financial support . If you apply to the Ph.D. program, you will be considered for financial support. Beginning Ph.D. students receive a $20,000 stipend per year (including the summer) and tuition waivers for 9 credits per term (6 in the Summer). Duties require 20 hours per week, mainly in service of various undergraduate students. We currently support 40 students, about half of whom are international students. To be considered for financial support beginning at a fall semester, your application should be complete by the previous May; for support beginning in a spring semester, it should be complete by the previous November.
How do I apply . For all programs you apply online at graduate.fau.edu/GradApp/ . The application fee can also be paid online. You request from ETS that your GRE score (and TOEFL score, if you are an international student) is sent directly to FAU. You send your original transcripts to the graduate admissions office.
If you apply for an MS degree, you send a copy of your GRE (and TOEFL, if applicable) score, and a copy of your transcripts to the graduate director, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Florida Atlantic University , Boca Raton , FL 33431.
If you apply for the Ph. D. degree, you fill out the department application form (.doc ,.html), and send it together with the following material to the graduate director, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Florida Atlantic University , Boca Raton , FL 33431:
