FAU Math Days
The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a series of interrelated events designed to increase interest in mathematics, recognize mathematical excellence and inspire local elementary, middle and high school students to pursue careers in mathematics.
FAU Math Days encompass the following community events:
FAU Math Day Extravaganza
A day long event of competitions and seminars designed to provide high school students and their teachers with an opportunity to share an appreciation of mathematics, to exchange ideas, and to interact with FAU Mathematics faculty.
FAU Mini-Math Day
The Mathematical Sciences department will host one whole grade from a local elementary school to participate in a program of mathematically related fun and games. These "Mini-Math Days" are designed to promote mathematical excellence and inspire mathematical talent early in our youth.
Internet Competition
An online competition for high school and middle school students designed to encourage students' problem solving skills and mathematical ingenuity, as well as, prepare students for the formal MAA competition.
MAA American Mathematics Competition
The Mathematical Association of America hosts a multiple choice exam for middle school students (in November) and high school students (in February) designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills and recognize mathematical excellence. Top scoring high school students have the chance to qualify for the National Team to represent the USA in the International Mathematical Olympiad.
Summer Camp 2008
The top finalists from FAU Math Day 2008 were invited to participate in an experimental 2 week long math camp designed to further inspire and challenge their mathematical talents.
