Hi, here is some information about my course Matrix Theory, MAS 2103. We meet Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30-10:50 a.m. in FLH 313.
Textbook and Topics
We are going to use the textbook "Elementary Linear Algebra - Applications Version" by Anton and Rorres, 8th edition, John Wiley et sons. Chapters of particular interest for us are:
Chapter 1 Linear equations, inverses of matrices, triangular matrices Chapter 2 Determinant function Chapter 3 Vectors in two-space and in three-space Chapters 4, 5 Vector spaces, linear independence, null space Chapter 7, sections 1 and 2 Eigenvectors and eigenvalues Chapter 8, section 2 Linear transformations, kernel and range Section 9.1 Differential equations Section 11.16 Cryptography, Hill ciphers As an alternative to the last section, we could cover an application related to biology, like Genetics, Population Growth, or Human Hearing. Please let me know what you think.

Homework: Every week, homework problems will be assigned; some problems may come up on a quiz. Please remind me to publish the current homework assignments under this link.
Quizzes: There'll be a quiz every Thursday of about 25 minutes. The ten best quizzes count for 1/3 of the grade.
Extra Credit: You can obtain extra credit for assingments done on a computer algebra system, say on Maple or MuPAD. Extra credit counts towards your quiz score, so scores of 100% or more are possible !
Midterm Exam: The first midterm exam will take place on Thursday, October 9, in our classroom during class time. It will count 1/6 towards your grade.
Final Exam: The final exam is comprehensive. It will count for 1/2 of your grade. It is scheduled for Thursday, Dec 11, 7:45 - 10:15 a.m. in our classroom.
