Hi, here is some information about my course Calculus I, MAC 2311, section number 12507. We meet Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 4:00 - 4:50 p.m., on MWF in AL 345 (Arts and Letters, University Theater, building #9 on the campus map) and on Thursdays in AL 342.
Textbook and Topics
We are going to use the textbook Calculus - Early Transcendentals, 5th edition by James Steward (ISBN 0-534-39330-6). In this course we will cover the following chapters.
Limits and Derivatives: Chapter 2 Tangent lines, velocity, etc Differentiation Rules: Chapter 3
Product rule, chain rule, implicit differentiation
Applications of Derivatives: Chapter 4 Minimum and maximum values, curve sketching, optimization
Integrals: Chapter 5 Area, Fundamental Theorem, substitution rule, logarithms
Credit
Quizzes: There'll be a quiz every Friday about the material covered during the week and about the homework assignments. The ten best quizzes count for 1/3 of the grade.
Extra Credit: You can obtain extra credit for assignments done on a computer algebra system, say on Maple or MuPAD. Extra credit counts towards the quizzes, so quiz scores of 100% or above are possible !
Midterm Exams: Two midterm exams will be announced in class. Both together count for 1/3 of the grade. The first midterm exam will take place on Thursday, February 12, 4-5 p.m. in our classroom AL342.
Final Exam: The final exam is comprehensive. It will count for 1/3 of your grade. It is scheduled for Friday, April 23, 4:00 -- 6:30 p.m. in our classroom.
Tutorials
Calculus tutorials are held in SE201 by Chang (MTWRF 9-12 a.m. and Lembeck (TR11-2, and MR 4-6 by appointment).
