Calculus III  (Spring 2003)


Hi, here is some information about my course Calculus III, MAC 2313, section number 15938.  We meet Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 2:00 - 2:50 p.m. in SC 180.
 
 

Textbook and Topics

We are going to use the textbook Calculus - Early Transcendentals, 4th edition by James Steward (ISBN 0-534-36298-2).  In this course we are going to cover the following chapters.
 
Chapter 12 Vectors and the geometry of space --- as needed
Chapter 13 Vector Functions  --- we start here
Chapter 14 Partial Derivatives
Chapter 15 Multiple Integrals
Chapter 16 Vector Calculus

Credit

Homework:  Every week, homework problems will be assigned; some problems will be graded. All homework grades count for 1/6 of your grade.  Under this link you can find recent homework assignments.

Extra Credit:  You can obtain extra homework points for assingments done on a computer algebra system, say on Maple or MuPAD.  Extra credit counts as homework, so homework scores of 100% or above are possible !

Quizzes:  There'll be a quiz every Friday; the ten best quizzes count for 1/6 of the grade.

Midterm Exams:  Two midterm exams will be announced in class.  Both together count for  1/3  of the grade. The first midterm exam has taken place on Thursday, February 13, 2003, the second is scheduled for April 3, 2003.

Final Exam:  The final exam is comprehensive.  It will count for  1/3  of your grade. It is scheduled for Sunday, April 27, 4:00 -- 6:30 p.m. in ED 119 or ED 113.

Tutorials

Tutorials for Calculus are scheduled as follows.  Antonin Chichouline: M2-4, W10-1, R11-2, F2-5; Mrs. Cooper: M11-1, W11-1.  All take place in SE 231.
