Shift ciphers
These Caesar-like ciphers are obtained by shifting the alphabet
by a fixed amount (Julius Caesar shifted by 3). They are produced by
simple-minded code wheels. If you are faced with a shift cipher,
you can decipher it by looking at the 26 possible shifts, and
choosing the one that makes sense. Try it on the cipher text below.
Notice that each column is the alphabet, in order, starting at the
cipher letter in that column. What is the message?
