Chapters 6-10: Topics from Probability, Number Theory, Algebra, Cryptography, Graph Theory, Partially Ordered Sets
(as time permits).
More explicitly, we will mostly follow the Broad focus syllabus suggested on page xxiii:
Sections 1-14, 17-20, 22-23, 31-35, 39-42, 43-49.
Homework: See the
guidelines. Also read pages xvii-xix of the text.
Do two or three hours of homework per lecture hour for this class.

Professor Lewin's
Survival Guide for Students Taking University Courses in Mathematics. It was written for students just beginning university,
but may help students at any level.
Quizzes: Every Friday, last 10 minutes, except on test days.
Tests: Friday 1/30/04, 2/27/04, 3/26/04.
Last Day to drop without a grade of F: February 27, 2004. Always check a second source for important dates.
Final: Comprehensive, on Sunday, April 25, 2004: 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in PA 101
No make-up quizzes. Make-up tests and examinations only for documented, legitimate reasons.
Grades: Final (45%) and 3 tests (15% each, total 45%), 8 best quizzes (10% total).
