INFORMATION:
Lectures: MWF _____PM- ______PM at
Textbook: Intermediate Algebra by Blitzer, Prentice Hall, 4th edition, 2006.
Supplement materials: If any, will be provided by instructor during lectures.
Software: MyMathLab. This software will be used in the course for
graded homework assignments. Assigned
homework problems in MyMathLab can be completed in
any open lab on Boca
Raton Campus as well as the math department computer lab in SE271 or you may
complete the homework assignments at your home if you install the requisite

MYMATHLAB HOMEWORK (15%): Homework problems from MyMathLab will be assigned after each topic is discussed in class. Homework deadline will be strictly enforced.
MYMATHLAB QUIZES (10%): Weekly quiz will be assigned on MyMathLab and
its deadline will be strictly enforced.
Note: Any attempt to cheat will
result in the system to lock down!!!
CLASS PARTICIPATION (10%): If time permits, during
each lecture class, there will be a group Q & A session. All students are required to participate in
the discussions and will have opportunity to present problems on the board.
ATTENDANCE (5%): A student may have at most 4 unexcused absences. A TOTAL OF 5 OR MORE UNEXCUSED ABSENCES WILL RESULT IN AN F IN THE COURSE.
MIDTERM EXAMS (40%): After every 2-3 weeks, there will be a 50 minutes midterm exam. A total of 4 midterm exams will be administered. No textbooks, solution manuals, calculators, laptops are allowed during the exams. Each midterm exam will count in towards student’s final grade and no midterm exam grade will be dropped.
* Exam problems are similar to both in-class and homework problems.*
There will be 1 make-up exam held at the last day of class to replace a missed exam or a low scored exam. Other than that absolutely no makeup for any missed exams (except in cases of severe illness, in which case a written evidence from the hospital or a physician should be submitted, otherwise, your absence will result in 0 points on the exam.)
Academic Honesty:
WORK: On exams and all kind of assignments, pay particular attention on how you write. Be neat!!! Messy written solutions may result in unnecessary loss of points. Keep in mind: You write mathematics as you would write your essays; a line after a line and from left to right. If applicable, give an explanation or reasoning for every step in your computation.
CREDITS: The rule is: NO WORK=NO POINTS. To receive any credit for the solution of a problem one must show all necessary work. Do not miss opportunities to collect extra bonus points during class discussion.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1)You are responsible for appropriate behavior in class: Please refrain from excessive talking, rudeness, extreme late arrivals or early departure and possession of items that disrupt the class such as cell phones or beepers
2)Lecture notes will be posted
online. If you are late or miss a class
it is your responsibility to obtain the lecture notes from fellow students. Please be aware that “getting the lecture
notes” is not equivalent to attending class.
3)You must have a valid FAU email
address so that you can be contacted.
4)You are responsible for staying informed about the course by checking periodically on BLACKBOARD for changes and updates.
5) You should keep your exams and other materials until the
end of the term in case there is a disagreement about a grade.
SUCCESS: To achieve success in this class you should
· Attend class regularly.
· Read ahead the section before class.
· Complete homework assignments as soon as possible.
· Attempt to do more problems other than those assigned.
· Regularly review your notes and use supplemental materials such as MyMathLab to master concepts etc.
· Seek help immediately when necessary.
